Clean Air

The Dynabrade Clean Air Solutions are designed to effectively and safely capture dust created throughout the course of manufacturing processes. Discover here our Industrial Vacuums Offering by category and zone.

Source capture clean air solutions consist of portable vacuums used in combination with an air tool or cleaning attachment. Capturing dust beyond general "housekeeping" throughout the manufacturing process promotes operator health as well as facility safety. Dynabrade source capture solutions realize enhanced operator efficiency, fewer instances of rework, and extended abrasive life.

BREAKING THE PRODUCT DOWN BY CATEGORY & ZONE

Required industrial "housekeeping" best practices tend to be very specific. It is always essential to understand local regulations, standards, and recommendations when developing a dust abatement plan and introducing clean air solutions to a manufacturing process. The Raptor Vac® family of Clean Air Solutions address ordinary vacuum locations and NFPA Category 3 Atex Zone 2 & 22 & Category 2, Atex Zone 1 & 21 locations as >described below

ORDINARY LOCATION

Also known as general purpose or unclassified areas, these locations are known to be free of hazardous or volatile dusts, fibers, gases, liquids, and vapors. Vacuuming is the preferred method of "housekeeping" over sweeping or water wash-down.

CATEGORY 3, ATEX ZONE 2 & 22

Dynabrade Clean Air Solutions have undergone a rigorous certification process through third-party testing facilities and meet or exceed recommended best housekeeping practices. The certification process guarantees that when utilized correctly and properly maintained, Dynabrade Category 3 Clean Air Solutions will eliminate the possibility of being an ignition source.

Each Category 3 vacuum is clearly identified with a recognition plate that authorities having jurisdiction will easily identify as being a designed, tested and certified system.

One of the following two situations must exist for an area to be considered Category 3, ATEX Zone 2 & 22 location:

1 - Combustible dust will not normally be in suspension in the air in quantities sufficient to produce explosive or ignitable mixtures. Dust accumulations will normally be insufficient to interfere with the normal operation of electric equipment or other apparatus. Combustible dust may be in suspension in the air as a result of infrequent malfunctioning of handling or processing equipment.

2 - Combustible dust accumulations on, or in the vicinity of the electric equipment may be sufficient to interfere with the safe dissipation of heat from electric equipment.

CATEGORY 2, ATEX ZONE 1 & 21

Category 2 Clean Air Solutions are certified for the safe recovery of metallic dusts in a dry state. Capturing metallic dust presents specific challenges to a manufacturing process and in some instances is a required step for establishing a safe work environment. Combustibility and volatility are two potential characteristics of some metals in fine dust form that Dynabrade addresses with Category 2 Clean Air Solutions.

Dynabrade supports the NFPA 652 standard which states vacuuming to be the preferred method of housekeeping and maintains that capturing dust as it is being made through vacuum-ready air tools is the most efficient method of capture. Such an approach permits skilled operators to carry on producing, with fewer housekeeping stops.

One of the following three situations must exist for an area to be considered Category 2, ATEX Zone 1 & 21 location:

1 -Where combustible metallic dust is present in the air under normal operating conditions in such a quantity as to produce explosive or ignitable mixtures. This could be on a continuous, intermittent, or periodic basis.

2 - Where an ignitable and/or explosive mixture could be produced if a mechanical failure or abnormal machinery operation occurs.

3 - Where electrically conductive dusts in hazardous concentrations are present.
